Shooting Kayaking and Stand Up Paddleboarding

Virginia’s Blue Ridge manages an active blog that highlights the active lifestyle of the Southwestern Blue Ridge region of Virginia. One of the highlights is video content. They asked DPC-LLC to step it up a notch from a typical user posted mobile phone video, to something that really highlights the region’s activities. This needed an extremely fast turnaround to make their deadline so we used footage that DPC-LLC shot two years ago for the “Blue Ridge Standard Time” campaign, and scheduled a day on the Roanoke river to capture new kayaking and SUP (stand up paddle boarding) footage.

For the shoot the DPC-LLC Camera Department used three cameras, a Blackmagic Ursa Mini 4.6k, a Blackmagic 4k Cinema Camera in the air, and a GoPro Hero +3 Black Edition shooting Protune 2.7k from a kayak. Primary grading was done in DaVinci Resolve with secondary grading and editorial done in Final Cut Pro X.
